With the ongoing war in Ukraine and the increasing rivalry between the United States and the People’s Republic of China, Taiwan’s 2024 presidential and legislative elections on January 13 have attracted much international attention. The election results could have far-reaching impacts on global politics and development. This talk will make sense of the elections and will provide an opportunity to discuss their implications.
Bio: Max Wu is an Adjunct Research Professor and contract instructor in the Department of Political Science. Prior to this, much of his teaching and research were at the Taipei-based National Chengchi University and its Institute of International Relations. His publications include book chapters in Anna Rudakowska et al. (eds.), Taiwan’s Exceptionalism (Jagiellonian University Press 2019) and Thomas Adams and Pitman Potter eds., Issues in Canada-China Relations (Canadian International Council, 2011).
