Desirrea Meney (she/her) is a PhD student in Political Science at Carleton University, specializing in the politics of public education, the history of political thought, and gender and diversity. She holds an MA from Carleton University and a BA (Honours) from Nipissing University, both in Political Science. Her master’s thesis explored alternative agonisms in radical democratic thought, highlighting the underrepresented contributions of French thinkers.

Her doctoral research investigates how Canadian public education perpetuates colonial myths, arguing that despite curricular reforms aimed at reconciliation, schools continue to reinforce settler colonial narratives. Through a political theory-informed ethnographic study, she examines how hegemonic school culture sustains state authority and shapes public memory.

Desirrea is a contract instructor at Nipissing University, where she teaches on social movements, protest, and activism. She also has extensive experience as a teaching assistant in courses on the history of political thought, Canadian institutions, and world politics.

Beyond academia, Desirrea works as a Policy Analyst for an Ontario public school board.
