News and Events
Our Institute hosts several engaging events, including our IPE Visiting Professor Lecture, Graduate Student Conference and Socialist Seminar Series.
Graduate students and faculty members are actively engaged in academic conferences, where they present their research, exchange ideas with peers, and stay informed about developments in their fields. These conferences provide valuable opportunities for professional development, networking, and scholarly collaboration.
IPE Visiting Professor Lecture
Every year, the Institute hosts two visiting scholars whose area of expertise is in one of the branches of Political Economy. Each visitor teaches one seminar broadly framed around Work and Labour themes and one seminar in the area of their research expertise. Visitors also offer a public lecture or a half- or full-day workshop or symposium as part of their time in residence.
The visiting professors continue a nearly 40-year-old tradition at the Institute of Political Economy and the former Graduate Summer School of Political Economy of bringing world-renowned scholarship and expertise to Carleton.
Qualified scholars are encouraged to contact the Institute and apply for an upcoming term. Learn more.
Socialist Seminar Series
Each year, the Institute of Political Economy proudly hosts the Socialist Seminar Series. This series brings together leading scholars, activists, and organizers to explore socialist thought and practice in the context of today’s pressing political challenges. Learn more.
Celebrating Our Student Annual Graduate Conference
Each year, the Institute of Political Economy’s Annual Graduate Student Conference stands as a testament to the intellectual vibrancy, collaborative spirit, and political commitment of our graduate students. Organized by IPE students, this conference is not only a space for critical scholarship and interdisciplinary dialogue, but also a reflection of the collective effort, care, and vision that our student organizers bring to life.
Our student volunteers, panelists, moderators and keynote speakers work has transformed the conference into a dynamic forum for emerging and established voices to challenge, rethink, and reimagine the political, economic, and social foundations of our world.
We are proud to showcase the legacy of these past conferences and celebrate the students whose commitment continues to make this annual event a highlight of the IPE calendar. Lean more.
