This is the application page for the 2025-2026 PECO Donor-Funded Awards. To apply, please submit your application via the form listed below.  Please be sure to read the award descriptions carefully and make sure your statement has a clear indication of your eligibility for the award. Applications are due Friday, February 13th. Any application submitted after that date will NOT be accepted.

Note: Funds will be applied to winter 2026 so you must be a registered full-time MA student in winter 2026 to be eligible to apply and receive any of these awards.

1967Maria Neil Scholarship$1,400Awarded annually by the Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs, on the recommendation of the Institute of Political Economy, to an outstanding graduate student entering or continuing in the Masters of Arts program in Political Economy. Endowed in 2009 by Maria Neil.
2151Dir. PECO Award$1,500Value $1,500. Awarded annually by the Dean of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs, on the recommendation of the Awards Committee of the Institute of Political Economy to an outstanding student enrolled in their second year of the Master of Arts in Political Economy. Application is required. Eligible students will demonstrate scholarship and on campus or broader community involvement. Established in 2012 by current and former Directors of the Institute in celebration of its 20th anniversary.
2406Mathew Nelson Scholarship$2,000Value $2,000. Awarded annually by the Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs on the recommendation of the Director of the Institute of Political Economy to an outstanding graduate student enrolled in the Master of Arts in Political Economy or in the Collaborative PhD with a Specialization in Political Economy. Mathew Nelson, a doctoral student and former president of CUPE 4600, possessed an extraordinary mind with an unwavering belief in a better world through social activism. Recipients of this award will demonstrate these qualities. Established in 2017 by family, friends, and colleagues of Mathew Nelson.
2542Wallace Clement Gradate Scholarship$700 for each departmentAwarded annually by the Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs on the recommendations of the Chair of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and the Director of the Institute of Political Economy to outstanding graduate students. Each year the scholarship will be split equally between students enrolled in Sociology/Anthropology and students enrolled in Political Economy. Endowed in 2018 to recognize Wally’s 38 years of contribution to the university.
