Before beginning your studies at the Institute of Political Economy where did you study and what program(s) were you enrolled in?
Three things attracted me to Carleton’s MA in Political Economy: (1) the ability to keep working with the Professor I worked with during my MPPA; (2) the chance to complete a thesis; and (3) having minimal coursework requirements before moving on to thesis research.

What activities have you been involved in lately?
Benjamin Faveri is currently the Consulting Scientist for the International Panel on the Information Environment’s Panel on Global Standards for AI Audits. Before this, he was a Research Fellow in AI Governance, Law, and Policy at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University working on soft law’s application to AI governance efforts where he managed a team to produce two large datasets, six academic articles, and nine policy briefs. Before this position, he was a Research and Policy Analyst at the Responsible AI Institute (RAII) where he helped develop all components of their Responsible AI Certification Program. Alongside his RAII work, Benjamin contributed to ongoing international AI standards development through ISO, particularly their recently published ISO 42001 AI Management System standard. Before his work, Benjamin completed a MPPA at Carleton University, where he was a Canada Graduate Scholar, Ontario Graduate Scholar, Social Innovation Fellow, and Visiting Scholar at UC Davis School of Law.
What advice would you give to a prospective Political Economy graduate student?
Apply for everything, ask for help when needed, and always write as clear and concisely as possible.
