Before beginning your studies at the Institute of Political Economy where did you study and what program(s) were you enrolled in?
Prior to enrolling in the Institute of Political Economy, I studied Philosophy and Political Science at uOttawa.
What is it specifically that attracted you to study Political Economy at Carleton?
The Institute of Political Economy was especially interesting to me, not only because of how unique it is compared to other departments across Ontario (and Canada) but also because of its breadth of study, encompassing studies in labour, economics, psychoanalysis, theory, etc., as well as its explicit focus on justice and coalition building work.
My areas of research interest include…
Political Economy of Gender; Gender and Sexuality; Science and Technology Studies (STS); Critical Studies; Capital Accumulation; Provincial Ontario Politics; Disability Studies; Decarcerality
What activities have you been involved in lately?
In my year between undergrad and master’s, I worked for the ONDP in a community office as a constituency assistant. It was a fantastic experience (shout out to MPP Pasma and her wonderful team!), and it left me wanting to engage more with my, and other, Ottawa riding(s). Now, I am involved at the municipal and provincial level to help build coalition in and throughout Ottawa!
What advice would you give to a prospective Political Economy graduate student?
Don’t be afraid to lean on your peers! This program works best as a collaborative one, you will be surrounded by a lot of brilliant people who have widely different interests than yours, and getting their input, and opinions can be so very helpful! Really throw yourself into your community, and develop friendships, community will be very important!
