Carleton University’s Board of Governors handed out five certificates on Tuesday to four students and a staff member for life-saving bravery and determination. Ron Jackson, chair of Carleton’s board and Roseann O’Reilly Runte, president and vice-chancellor of Carleton, presented their congratulations and the awards to each recipient.

The certificates honoured four lifeguards, Catherine Supple-Craig, Kaitlyn Sennema, Meron Mulugeta and Nico Belisle, who helped save the life of a drowning 14-year-old girl on Sept. 15, 2012. In addition, Mark Hargreaves, the community liaison officer with patrol services in the Campus Safety Services, was recognized for his actions in the line of duty involving a fatally injured individual on Jan. 3, 2012.
