Protect your bicycle:

The Campus Safety Services is advising the public to properly secure their bicycles after several reports of stolen bicycles.

To reduce the risk of being targeted by bicycle thieves, here are some quick tips:
-Take advantage of Carleton’s secure bicycle storage located in the Athletics area. The storage area is accessible 24/7 by purchasing a yearly permit from the parking office for $10
-Only lock you bicycle to proper bicycle racks. Do not use posts, railings or other objects are they are not always secure.
-Use a proper lock. Avoid using cable locks are they are easily cut with a pair of lock cutters. Look in to using a “U-Lock” which is made of heavy steel and very difficult to cut. Your most secure option of securing your bicycle is to use two locks. Use your “U-Lock” to secure the frame of your bicycle to the rack, and use a cable lock intertwined through the wheels and frame.
– Secure your bicycle to a bicycle rack in a heavy pedestrian and well lit areas.

Keep these simple tips in mind when securing your bicycle to increase the odds of finding your bike where you left it.
