Thank you to Athletics, CUSERT & CCS for Quick Response

Feb. 1, 2018

To All Members of the Carleton Community,

On the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018, a young female who is not a Carleton University student was visiting the Carleton pool to train with her swim club, when she fell ill and lost consciousness while on the pool deck. For a brief time, she also lost vital signs.
Carleton’s lifeguards and representatives of the Carleton University Student Emergency Response Team (CUSERT) were the first responders to the incident. Ottawa emergency services attended the scene, vital signs were restored and the patient was transported to CHEO.

The university would like to thank the aquatics staff at the Athletics Centre, members of CUSERT and the Campus Safety Services for responding quickly to the incident and providing support to the family. The young woman remains in hospital in stable condition.
