Communications Operator
Communications Operators are responsible for call-taking, dispatching and monitoring of various security/life safety related monitoring systems – e.g. access control, emergency phones, fire alarms, intrusion alarms, and video cameras.
Term to Continuing Progression
Qualifications:
- Completion of High School Diploma. Completion a two-year college diploma in 9-1-1 Emergency and Call Centre Communications, or similar type program will be considered an asset.
- Must possess a valid first aid certificate (Standard level) with CPR level C from WSIB-recognized provider
- Prior experience working in a call-centre/dispatch environment or significant volunteer involvement in a distress centre/victim services role
- Minimum 2 years experience in a full-time corporate/industrial security role or law enforcement position in the private or public sectors considered an asset
Hiring Process:
Step 1 – Application

Step 2 – Initial Interview
Shortlisted candidates be interviewed by a multi-person hiring panel made up of the CSS team, as well as the broader Carleton community. As part of the interview, candidates will be expected to complete a work-sample exercise.
Step 3 – Background Screening
Those applicants that successfully pass the interview stage of the process will be required to pass background screening which includes: a psychological assessment, reference checks, employment verification, credit history check, criminal record check, and a review of online/social media accounts.
Step 4 – Offer of Employment
Applicants that pass the background screening process may be offered a position and a start date will be determined.
