Overview
The purpose of the Barrett-Fleming Community Involvement Awards is to recognize student community service. This award will be issued annually, when merited, to full-time, or part-time undergraduate students enrolled in any program of study at Carleton University.
The Barrett-Fleming Community Involvement Awards aim to both encourage and provide incentives for students engaged in community involvement and most importantly, to reward and recognize these individuals for their high level of achievement. These awards foster the ideal that students and society can benefit from community involvement as well as through the personal growth and community development that derives from such activities.
A minimum of two awards will be given annually – one to recognize service within the Carleton community, and one to recognize service beyond the Carleton community. Consideration will be given to the depth of involvement, level of responsibility, impact on the Carleton community/impact on the external community, and demonstrated personal growth of the individual. Endowed in 2021 by Nancy Fleming (Barrett) BAHONS/75 and the late James Fleming BA/77.
Selection Process
The recipients of this award will be selected by a selection committee. Each award consists of a monetary prize of $1,600, to be applied to the recipient’s student account and to be recognized as award recipients at the SOAR Student Leadership Conference.
