Overview
Thinking about going into post-secondary? How do you know what courses to take? What should you expect in your classes? How do you build better study habits? Come and get your questions answered about all things academic in a safe environment catered for you by Black university students. Through presentations and spotlights on the academic resources available at Carleton, this chapter will give you the tools you need to succeed in a post-secondary institution.
What to Expect
Students will have the opportunity to hear from a current ACB Carleton University student as they share their experiences and tips for navigating the academic and funding aspects of post-secondary education. The audience will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in a discussion about post-secondary classes, study habits, and academic success in this time of transition.

Michelle Mc Farlane, Michelle is the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Manager at Shad. She’s a Shad 2003 alumnus, demonstrating a deep connection to the program. Passionate about extending the Shad program to diverse youth with varied experiences and perspectives. Actively fosters relationships with program partners to support inclusivity and accessibility. Provides guidance and support for program development and youth engagement. Focuses on making Shad environments inclusive and accessible for historically underrepresented groups in STEAM. Specifically targets Black youth, Indigenous youth, and youth with disabilities for inclusion and support.

Katrice Justice, Financial educator and entrepreneur with a deep understanding of young Canadians’ challenges. She is very passionate about financial literacy, recognizing the need to prepare early for the future. She became a homeowner at age 22, demonstrating early financial responsibility and success. Played a pivotal role in teaching older siblings about investing, positively impacting the family’s financial future.
Registration is required to attend and attendees will be emailed the zoom link prior to the event.
