For many Black students, accessing professional hair care that affirms their texture, culture, and identity isn’t just expensive, and it can feel impossible. Specialized Black hair styling often costs hundreds of dollars, creating a barrier that no student should have to navigate alone.
This March, we’re bringing the salon to campus.
The Pop-Up Black Hair Salon is a one-day event offering Black students at Carleton access to skilled stylists and a full range of culturally affirming services. All services are provided at subsidized student rates made possible through the support of our campus partners and community sponsors.
What’s on the menu:
Whether you’re walking in with freshly washed locs ready for a retwist, wanting a clean fade before the week ahead, or finally booking those box braids you’ve been putting off, we’ve got you. Our stylists are offering styles up to 2 hours:
- Braids & twists – Fulani braids, single braids, two-strand twists, and more, in jumbo and large sizes, with or without extensions
- Cornrows – From a simple two-row style to fully sculpted, geometric designs
- Locs care – Retwists, barrel rolls, styling, and everything your locs deserve
- Cuts & fades – full service cuts, lineups, beard trims, and curly cuts (free of charge)
- Protective & special styles – closure wig installs, slick-back ponytails with extensions, and more
Prices start from $0 and top out at $50, because your hair should never be a luxury you can’t afford. Spaces are limited. Students must sign up in advance through the link below.
