Former regular faculty who retired at the rank of Full Professor are granted automatically the title “Professor Emeritus.” Certain of these faculty, upon the recommendations of the departmental and Faculty Tenure and Promotions committees, are granted the title “Distinguished Research Professor.”

On the recommendation of the Chair, retired faculty may be approved by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (FGPA) as supervisors of graduate theses and research essays. This status is also bestowed upon certain other distinguished individuals that the Chair recommends for appointment at the honorary rank of Adjunct Research Professor.
