School has been comfortable, reliable and steady. It provided a routine and an answer to relative’s looming question “What are you currently doing?” Now that we are in fourth year, a new question haunts us: “What are you going to do?” I would like to use this post to talk about working towards your dream.

The months February and March are challenging. Your life is up in the air, which results in frustration, eagerness and maybe a little anxiety. Everyone is waiting on responses from grad schools, finding jobs for the summer, or deciding what else they will do after graduation. As tiring, exciting and frustrating as the process is, it is beyond worth it. You are investing in yourself! My dream is to combine art and business, and right now I am discovering the many ways in which this can happen!

My ultimate dream is to study business and art abroad. Evidently, such a dream involves endless research before it can be realized. A dream can always and only become real if you work at it! Regardless of your dream, one of the most rewarding things you can do to further that dream is to talk to your professors. No matter the extent of your research, your professor will have a different perspective to consider. The professors at Carleton are always approachable and willing to talk to you!

For example, I was speaking with a professor about my dream of studying at Sotheby’s. She thought it was exciting, and she provided alternate points of view about my options as well as informed me of different scholarships for traveling abroad! This assured me that I could make my dream happen. It’s all about being prepared, knowing your options, and having a backup plan. I felt like the fire under me had been sparked again.
