Testimonials

Catherine Sinclair
MA, Art History (Canadian Art History)
Current Position: Director of Exhibitions, Conservation and Production at the National Gallery of Canada (NGC)
“Since graduating, I have built a professional career working in the art museum sector. Now at the NGC, I lead an incredible team of diverse art experts who make the exhibitions, permanent collection rotations, public space installations, loans out from the national collection, and national engagement projects happen, both on site in Ottawa, and abroad in Canada and overseas. I help network partnerships in the sector and work cross-departmentally to ensure that we have a broad and audience and artist-forward program.”

Imogen Goldie
BA, History and Theory of Architecture (Minor in Industrial Design)
Current Position: Project Manager Heritage Planning at the City of Guelph
“My time at Carleton taught me the importance of critical thinking and lateral problem solving. My introduction to architectural history broadened my understanding of ‘heritage’ as a field and taught the language to describe our built environments and cultural landscapes… I have now been able to work on and lead heritage projects in three provinces and four cities because I look for interesting projects in interesting places.”

Whitney Gattesco
BA & MA, Art History (Art and Its Institutions)
Current Position: Library Planning Consultant, Exhibitions at the Ottawa Public Library
“Going to Carleton helped me establish roots in the local arts community. I was able to work part-time in several art organizations throughout my studies. I also gained a network of connections that ultimately helped me get into the field. I’ve always felt that studying history through art was a great way to get some perspective on the world. It taught me how to zoom out and assess the larger picture before homing in on the details, which is a skill that has come in handy, especially in navigating my way through my professional life.”
