Art & Architectural History invites you to the upcoming guest lecture “To Enter Art History – Determining the Canon and Institutional Critique in Contemporary Chinese Art” by Orianna Cacchione (Curator of Global Contemporary Art, Smart Museum and Lecturer Contemporary Art, Asian Art, University of Chicago), which takes place next Friday, Feb 5, 11:30 am  – 12:30 pm on zoom (Join Zoom Meeting: https://carleton-ca.zoom.us/j/94263988324)

The lecture considers how Chinese artists conceptualized their relationship to Western art and art history in the late 1980s, with a particular focus on how conceptions of Western art history catalyzed a shift from the jubilant experimentation and development of a new Chinese art to an urgency to canonize a domestic history of contemporary art.
