Cinquecento Presents: The Divine Nature of Leonardo

Wednesday, September 18th, 2019 at 7:00 pm to 7:00 am

  • In-person event
  • 100 St. Patrick’s Building (Carleton University Art Gallery), Carleton University, 1125 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa, ON, K1S 5B6

While modern audiences embrace Leonardo da Vinci as a secular scientist and artistic genius, Randi Klebanoff proposes to look at da Vinci within the context of the theocentric understanding of the cosmos that was his contemporary context.

In this lecture Klebanoff will examine how da Vinci’s highly original depictions of the divine related to 15th century artistic efforts in imaging God’s paradoxical immanence and transcendence in the world, and to theological ideas of nature, cognition, and the divine.
