Life after the B.PAPM: Over the next 15 months, Kroeger College graduate Rene Toupin-Piper (2010) will be working in Cameroon for the African Model Forest Network (AMFN). Based on an idea born here in Canada, the AMFN is an initiative in participatory sustainable forest management, working with the affected communities, government and industry to think long-term about and reach consensus on how the forest should be managed.
Specifically, Rene will be working with the Baka and Bagyeli people – severely marginalized indigenous hunting and gathering peoples whose livelihoods depend on the forest — to ensure they have a stronger say over this process, and to help them develop alternative economic opportunities.
