We asked Pablo Mhanna-Sandoval, one of our incredible 2022 graduates of the PAPM program to tell us more about his experience in the program and his plans for the future. Pablo graduated with High Distinction from the Bachelor of Public Affairs and Policy Management program where he specialized in International Policy Studies: International Relations and Conflict

What led you to choose a degree in BPAPM?
I am interested in the transformative power of public policy and was drawn by BPAPM’s excellent reputation in the field. BPAPM’s relatively small class size and program structure were also attractive.

What were the highlights of your experience?
The highlight of my time in BPAPM has been meeting such a diverse and driven group of peers, many of which I’m proud to call my friends.

What did you learn that you found most important?
I’m thankful to have learned so many things from so many people. Most notably, it was humbling to just scratch the surface of the sheer diversity of perspectives on any given policy issue out there. Many of my perspectives on a range of issues have changed, and for this process I am grateful.

What advice would you give to students who are thinking about joining the BPAPM program?
If you’re considering joining the BPAPM program, chances are you’re civically minded. That’s fantastic. We often hear that our civic spaces need less cynicism and more big thinking. So, think big and take conscientious steps towards making those career plans a reality. If there’s a policy file that fascinates you, there’s an opportunity and mentor for you—both at Carleton and out there in the job market—just waiting for you to take the leap.

What’s next for you?
I’m proud to be starting law school at McGill University in September 2022. Not only did my time in BPAPM lead to my interest in law school, but it also equipped me with a unique background and toolkit that I’m proud to bring with me. I’m grateful to the BPAPM administrative/academic staff and my peers for their support and encouragement.
