We asked Jocelyn Taylor, one of our 2023 graduates of the PAPM program to tell us more about her experience in the program and plans for the future. Jocelyn graduated with Distinction from the Bachelor of Public Affairs and Policy Management program where she specialized in Public Policy and Administration: Economic Policy

What led you to choose a degree in BPAPM?
I was initially interested in BPAPM for the opportunity to gain learning experiences in law, economics, politics, history and much more. The combination of courses that are involved in the BPAPM degree really spoke to my interests and provided an opportunity for a well-rounded university experience.

What were the highlights of your experience?
My Honours Research Essay is most certainly the highlight of my experience as a BPAPM student. Although this project challenged me, it was an amazing experience, pursuing my own research and working on something I am truly passionate about. The flexibility of the BPAPM program allowed me to focus my studies on a policy subject I really care about and exposed me to the industry, providing valuable education and work experience.

What did you learn that you found most important?
The BPAPM program really improved my writing skills and has given me the ability to write a variety of papers. The opportunity to write briefing notes and policy papers during my degree has been extremely beneficial for my career, and would provide a good foundation for graduate studies.

What advice would you give to students who are thinking about joining the BPAPM program?
Don’t be afraid to be yourself and pursue research that you are truly passionate about. Not only does this provide the best learning experience, but it best prepares you for a career that you will love.

What’s next for you?
I am currently working at the Privy Council Office. I enjoy working for the government but am keeping an open mind about pursuing further education in policy to further enhance my knowledge and skills.
