Ariana Coleman
2021 BPAPM Graduate
Degrees: | BPAPM, International Policy Studies with a concentration in International Relations and Conflict |
We asked Ariana Coleman, one of our recent graduates of the PAPM program to tell us more about her experience in the program and her plans for the future. Ariana graduated from the Bachelor of Public Affairs and Policy Management with Distinction on June 18, 2021. Liz specialized in International Policy Studies: International Relations and Conflict.
What led you to choose a degree in BPAPM? I knew I wanted to stay in Ottawa due to having been accepted to the Page Program so it was between Carleton or Ottawa U! I liked the Carleton campus better and felt as though this program was the best option for me considering my interests in Parliament and International Affairs.
What were the highlights of your experience? Finding classes that I didn’t just mildly enjoy but ones that I actually looked forward to every week in my later years! I didn’t think it was possible to like a class so much! I also loved the free printing in the lab.
What did you learn that you found most important? Reach out if you need help! I had an Academic Warning after first semester but now I have amazing grades. This doesn’t just go for courses you’re struggling with (for me it was ECON especially), but also if you have any type of disability/life situation! As a student with a disability, signing up with the Paul Menton Centre was the best decision I made in my entire university career.
What advice would you give to students who are thinking about joining the BPAPM program? Do it! First year is full of theory and almost scared me away, but if you know you have an interest in a specialization, stick it out because you’re able to access classes that are only available to PAPM students!
What’s next for you? I am so lucky to have been accepted to do a Masters of Public and International Affairs at Glendon College! It’s a two-year program with the option to do a dual degree with the Université de Strasbourg in France! Fingers crossed that COVID will have calmed down enough by then.
