The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme is a Japanese-government-sponsored exchange program that offers university graduates opportunities to work in Japan as either an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) in public schools or a Coordinator of International Relations (CIR) in select municipal government offices. The JET Programme offers one-year contracts which are extendible between three to five years, annual salary increases, a round-trip flight to Japan, and much more.
With 80 participating countries from around the world, Canada is the third biggest provider of participants, sending Canadians to Japan since 1988. JET participants gain valuable work and life experience while having the opportunity to be fully immersed in Japanese daily life and culture. With this program, people from around the world can live, work, and experience Japan from a local lens!
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan offers scholarships to Canadian students wishing to pursue their studies at a Japanese university. The scholarship covers tuition fees, roundtrip flight to Japan and monthly allowance. Two categories open for application in Canada every spring: The Undergraduate Students category and the Research Students category.
