Prepare for the Fair: Practicing Your Networking Skills and Techniques

The Fall Career & Networking Fair is coming up on Wednesday, October 9, and Career Services is here to help you prepare for the fair!

Knowing how to network with employers will help you make the most out of attending a career and networking fair, whether you’re looking for part-time, full-time, or co-op jobs. Organize your networking questions and learn how to identify from employers which skills, academic background, and qualifications they are looking for.

At this workshop, you will:

  • Discover the importance of networking in building connections
  • Learn how to create your elevator pitch
  • Learn how to articulate your skills and experiences
  • Gain effective networking strategies that will help you stand out from the crowd
  • Discover how to utilize networking as a tool to access the hidden job market
  • Obtain tips on following up with employers after an event to help you develop long-lasting connections

What to Expect

  • Taking part in a virtual workshop in a group setting
  • Viewing a PowerPoint presentation that covers the above topics
  • Participating in activities and group discussions related to the workshop content

How to Prepare

  • Ensure your Zoom account is up to date, your electronic device is charged, and your internet connection is reliable.
  • Use your laptop, tablet, iPad, etc. to take notes during the presentation (you can also write notes by hand with a pen and paper)
  • Research the organizations you would like to speak to at the Fall Career & Networking Fair

How to Attend

The Networking session will be conducted virtually on Zoom on Wednesday, October 2,10am-12pm. Register for the session on this my Success event post; students and alumni who register for this session will be sent a Zoom link one hour before the start of the workshop.
