Research: Dr. Pierce’s research examines a) how nuclear transport of proteins is controlled and how this control changes during artherosclerotic heart disease, b) the role Chlamydia pneumonia, a respiratory pathogen, plays in inducing atherosclerosis, c) the role of sodium calcium exchange in ischemia reperfusion injury and d) the use of flaxseed as a dietary intervention for heart disease.
