Research: Dr. Magder investigates the role of nitric oxide in the vascular dysregulation seen in sepsis, using anaesthetized pigs as a model system. The effects of endothelin (ET1) blockers on the vascular responses in sepsis and their effect on the NOS system are also examined. He also studies the role of superoxide production in the vascular injury seen in sepsis. Other studies look at estrogen and the vascular wall in rats which are oophorectomized. NO and superoxide production is measured in isolated aortic rings in these studies.
