Research: Dr. Bennett’s research translates the molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration and neuroregeneration into new therapy for intractable neurodegenerative disease. Her work identifies new therapeutic targets that can reduce brain damage or restore brain function following injury, progressive neurodegenerative disease, and rare pediatric disease involving lipid accumulation. She utilizes a lipidomics approach to cell culture, animal models of disease employing transgenic engineering technologies, and clinical population studies of plasma to learn more about neurodegeneration and neuroregeneration and identify biomarkers of disease progression and therapeutic efficacy. She is the Director of the STIHR/CIHR Training Program in Neurodegenerative Lipidomics (www.neurolipidomics.com).
