Research: Dr. Stochaj investigates nuclear envelope proteins and their role in organizing chromatin. She is examining how oxidative stress affects the trafficking of macromolecules in and out of the nucleus. These transport processes control cellular metabolism and are essential for cell survival upon stress. She determines how the trafficking of these macromolecules between nucleus and cytoplasm plays a role in redox homeostasis. These questions are addressed with a combination of genetics, biochemistry, cell and molecular biology.
