oTree Mini Course (Python-Based Experimental Software)

Tuesday, February 21 at 12:30 pm to Thursday, February 23, 2023 at 3:30 pm

The Centre for Monetary and Financial Economics (CMFE) at the Department of Economics is presenting an in person mini course taught by Professor Lanny Zrill as an introduction to oTree which is a Python-based experimental software. This software is currently state-of-the-art for experiments in economics and public policy, but is also relevant to those conducting experiments in business and the social sciences. As the program uses Python, HTML, CSS, and Javascript the start-up time investment is high, so this six-hour workshop (presented in 2 sessions) is intended to help participants get through the main technical and conceptual hurdles that often deter researchers from using this software despite its many advantages. Both faculty and students are welcome.

This mini course place on February 21st and 23rd from 12:30 – 3:30 pm.

We will send registered participants the Carleton University building and room number on Friday, Feb. 17th

This is a hands-on workshop, and there will be live coding examples, so participants will need to bring their laptop (no particular software is required but we will install Python 3.x as part of the course if it’s not already on the participant’s laptop). No previous experience with Python or other programming languages is necessary, just an open-mind and lots of patience.
