Engineering Course Access for non-BEng Students
Registration in Carleton undergraduate engineering courses is usually restricted to only students studying in Bachelor of Engineering degree programs.
If you are a Carleton student:
If you are a Carleton student not in an Engineering program: If you are unable to register for an engineering course required for your program, please submit an Engineering Override Request. Note: all requests will be denied unless the course is required in your current program.
If you are a graduate student in an Engineering program: Contact your graduate advisor, and/or graduate administrator to initiate a request to register in an undergraduate engineering course. An override request is not needed.
If you are an Engineering student from another university:
Please start with your home University to initiate a Letter of Permission request.
University of Ottawa engineering students may be eligible to register in Carleton engineering courses via Exchange.
Then, please follow these steps:
1. Contact Registrar’s Office to apply to be a Special student at Carleton University, and send your LOP or uOttawa exchange approval form (from your home university) AND academic transcript to Registrar@carleton.ca.
Deadlines for submitting LOP and UO exchange requests – effective December 1, 2025 the following deadlines will be upheld to ensure sufficient processing time in advance of the term starting:
- Requests related to SUMMER Term Courses – April 15
- Requests related to FALL Term Courses – August 15
- Requests related to WINTER Term Courses – December 15
2. Once we receive your documentation, we will verify prerequisites have been satisfied and then grant permission to register. Note: all approvals are subject to course capacities.
