Guest Speaker:

Duane Smith

Duane has over three decades of creative and business experience spanning a breadth of industries from consumer goods to apparel to architecture. He studied industrial design at Carleton University and sustainable architecture at the Bauhaus in Dessau, Germany. In 2001, Duane co-founded Vessel which designed and distributed a range of innovative housewares products including Candela rechargeable lights. After selling Vessel, Duane lead design and innovation first for the Adidas Group and then Targus, managing teams throughout Asia and North America. Duane has taught design, entrepreneurship and creative leadership at Otis College of Art & Design, Loyola Marymount University, and Pi School in Rome. In 2015, he founded Hundred Mile House, a design/build practice based in California, and now leads a team developing luxury residential projects for clients nationwide.

Student Expo:

The Grad Show is an exhibition by the graduating class showcasing their final product designs. The exhibition will showcase the application of design principles in the graduating students’ comprehensive design projects, highlighting student research, product iteration through design and engineering, and product design solutions for user problems. Their creations will address user problems that emerge in the below themes. Please click on the poster to see more information about each theme area.
