A large number of applications are received each year from well-qualified international students for an extremely limited number of positions.

Admissions requirements

Only students with high honours (first or top second) in their country (alternatively defined as 80% or above from universities with a percentage system, 3.0 on a 4.0 G.P.A. system, or 15 out of 20 on the 20 point system) and a high ranking in their graduating class should consider applying.

Preference will be given to applicants who have obtained a scholarship external to Carleton University, which would support their proposed degree program in the School of Industrial Design.

Students may consider applying for external funding. Please visit the Government of Canada International Scholarships website. Carleton University is unable to provide assistance to students applying for external funding.

The academic year starts in September and students first register in the Fall semester. Universities generally make their decisions concerning financial support by May 1st.

International students studying in Ontario are charged tuition fees of approximately $14,500 per year. We estimate that an international student will need a minimum of $26,000 (Canadian funds) per annum to cover tuition and living expenses.

Please visit the International Student Services Office website for information regarding working in Canada while attending Carleton University.
