The Project Office, along with a number of ITS staff and Managers, made presentations at the OUCC conference that was held at the University of Ottawa campus from May 30th to June 1st.

Background
The Ontario Universities Computing Conference (OUCC) was co-hosted by Carleton and uOttawa from May 30th to June 1st with wide ITS participation from both Universities.

The main theme of the 2010 conference was “Building IT….We are IT” with presentations following the sub-themes of: “Invent, Plan, Develop, Communicate, and Support” IT. From ITS, Sandro Gentile, Ben Schmidt, Steve Gormley, Pierre Morissette, Andrew Riddles (for Danny Brown), and Mary Kathryn Roberts were among the 52 presenters. Wade Hong from the Faculty of Science and Jonathan Wells from the Office of the Vice-President (Research & International) also presented.

CCS’s CIO, Ralph Michaelis, was a co-host with uOttawa’s CIO, Sylvain Chalut, and both did a super job opening and closing the conference.

Outcome
The Project Office presentation was on Project Portfolio Management and how to implement this methodology in an education institution. The presentation was well received. It was interesting to note that a few universities do not have a project office or project management methodologies.

The Conference was a huge success with over 300 attendees from all over Ontario. Delegates, sponsors, presenters, key-note speakers and volunteers gained knowledge and insight into the role and future of IT within higher education institutions.

Many thanks to the organizers and the many volunteers from ITS who made the two days comfortable, educational and fun.
