Carleton University email addresses continue to receive email requests to ‘confirm their identity’ or ‘update your email now’.

These emails appear to sometimes have been sent from a legitimate Carleton email address and ask that users respond with their personal information, userid and password.

Whether or not these emails are sent from a Carleton University address, please note these emails are not legitimate and are not from Carleton ITS.

It is an attempt by a third party to trick users into providing their “userids and passwords”.

This type of attack is called ‘phishing’. The third party will then use the compromised account to send spam or viruses.

You will NEVER be asked to divulge your password via email by Carleton ITS. If you have been caught by one of these hoaxes, change your password immediately.

The ITS change password form for Students can be accessed at: https://connect.carleton.ca/secure-cgi/passwd.cgi
