On January 30th, the iTeam hosted an intermediate iPad Lunch and Learn.  This session focused on iCloud, a free service from Apple.

This session focused on three iCloud features: iPhone locator, notes App and iCloud backup.

To set up your iCloud Account:

  1. Go to apple.com/icloud/setup.
  2. Sign in with your Apple ID.
    – Have you ever bought anything on iTunes on your PC or Mac?  If yes, you can use that ID.
    – Forgot your password? Go to forgot.apple.com.

Please note: If your Apple ID above doesn’t end in @icloud.com, you’ll be prompted to make one on your iPad when you enable iCloud.

Once set up, you can begin using the following features:

Find iPhone

Lost your phone?  iCloud will help you find it!

  1. Go to icloud.com from any computer browser in the world.
  2. Sign-in with iCloud account.
  3. Click locate/ping my iPad/ iPhone.

Notes App on iPad

With the notes app, you can make a note on iPad and easily sync it to icloud.com.  This feature is accessible from any computer browser in the world.  Simply sign-in with your iCloud account to view your notes.

  • Tip: you can have multiple Notes accounts, one for each email account, configured on your iPad
  • Advice: For simplicity, turn off Notes syncing on all of your email accounts except for your iCloud account.

 iCloud backup on iPad

iCloud features 5GB of free backup space, but you can buy more backup space.

To run iCloud backup, your iPad must be plugged in, locked, and on WiFi.  You can also force backup with “Backup now” button.

In future iCloud sessions, the iTeam will feature:

  • Findmyfriends
  • Documents in the Cloud
  • Photostream : iCloud Photostream FAQ
