On Tuesday July 30, 2019 at 10:00 a.m., ITS will be implementing a new policy to lock computer screens after 15 minutes of inactivity. This industry standard configuration will be applied to all faculty and staff Windows workstations and laptops that are connected to the CUNET domain.
This change will address a security concern of staff walking away from their devices without manually locking them. This 15 minute lock screen policy will help mitigate the risk of unauthorized access to workstations and university data.
Once the policy is applied, your Windows desktop session will automatically trigger the screensaver and lock the screen after 15 minutes of inactivity. Once the screen is locked, your password will be required to re-access your workstation.
If you currently have a screensaver enabled, and your screensaver settings are set to less than 15 minutes, the lesser value will be honored.
This policy has been previously applied to all ITS staff, with no impact.
Note that ITS public lab, classroom and kiosk systems are not impacted by this change, as they already have similar mechanisms in place.
