To increase resiliency and ensure service continuity, ITS will be upgrading the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) in the Pigiarvik Data Centre (PKDC) starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday, February 24. Work will continue throughout the weekend, concluding at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 25 and will result in a full power shutdown to the PKDC over these two days. A failover to the MacOdrum Library Data Centre (MLDC) will occur, minimizing disruption to a majority of services. There will, however, still be an impacts to the following list of services below.

Banner

There will be a one-hour outage to Banner starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, February 24 to allow this service to be migrated over to the MLDC, ensuring related services and dependencies will continue to run over the weekend. Upon completion of the power shutdown, an outage will be required to migrate Banner back from the MLDC between approximately 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 25. During each outage, clients will be unable to access the following:

  • Banner 9 Administrative Pages
  • Carleton Central (including T4 & T2202A Forms)
  • Campus Card De/Reactivation, Campus Card Activity Review Systems & Campus Card Web Deposits & Web Payments
  • Banner Database
  • Banner Job Submissions
  • Banner Reports
  • Banner Workflow
  • Banner Document Management (BDM)
  • MyCarletonOne (MC1) Services
  • Banner – SITS Integration
  • Ventus Services
  • Banner Integration with eShop
  • U.Achieve/DARS Audit

During each outage, slow degraded services will also be experienced to the following services:

  • Carleton360 (CRM)
  • FAST Application
  • Jira Services
  • Carleton Mobile App (Note: There will be no impact to the Emergency Notification System)
  • Concur Services
  • Public Exam Schedule
  • Campaign Monitor
  • CAS Authentication on legacy CMS, Framework and Intranet Sites (Note: There will be no impact to cuTheme sites)
  • HR Intake form

All Banner services are expected to resume by 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 25.

FAST, Smartcall, Luminis, cuLearn

These services will be unavailable starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, February 24, through until approximately 2 p.m. Sunday, February 25.

cuPortfolio

There will be 2 short outages to cuPortfolio at 8 p.m. Friday, February 23 and again on Sunday, February 25 at 9 a.m., each approximately 1 hour in duration.  Between those times, cuPortfolio will remain available.

Voice Services

There will be a one-hour outage to Voice Services starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, February 24. During this time, there will be no inbound or outbound phone service for 520-2600. Campus Safety Services will be able to receive emergency phone calls during the outage, but there will be no service for Analog Emergency Phones such as elevator phones and Yellow Assistance Push Button phones.

Upon completion of the power shutdown, a similar one-hour outage will be required to return these services back to the PKDC. All Voice Services are expected to resume by 9 a.m. on Sunday, February 25.

Network Drives

During the maintenance window, Carleton’s Network Attached Storage (NAS) drives in the PKDC are expected to failover to the MLDC so that network drives can continue to function, though degraded service or short outages may be experienced during the maintenance window. While previous upgrades to our NAS will drastically reduce impacts to network drives, users experiencing issues connecting to their network drives will need to log out of their computers and back in again to regain access.
