Love to sing? Join the Carleton Choir. In existence for over 40 years, the Carleton University Choir is a large choral ensemble of as many as 90 voices. Members come from a wide variety of faculties around campus. The choir invites all students, faculty, staff, and community members to sing with us!

This large choir performs a variety of repertoire across a broad range of stylistic periods, genres, and cultures.

The choir presents two major public concerts during the academic year. These concerts showcase a variety of large and small-scale choral works and frequently feature orchestra and soloists. The choir is directed by Laurie Hamilton and accompanied by Joanne Moorcroft.

Next year the choir will have more room for students on campus, as a separate choir dedicated to Music Majors will be starting. A short audition is required for admission to the choir. See the information below regarding auditions.

The choir meets on Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. in Studio A on the 9th floor of the Loeb building. During the first half hour a rehearsal for individual sections is usually held. All members pay a music fee of approximately $25-30 per semester to cover the cost of music. Non-student community members pay an annual fee of $100.00.

Auditions:

Auditions will be held in late August and early September. You can watch for dates to be posted, or you can send an email to choir@carleton.ca for more information or to set up an audition.

The ability to read music at least at an elementary level is required. Auditions will include assessment of range and ear ability as well as a short sight reading passage.
