Directed by Edward Lister

DAY & TIME: Tuesdays 6-9PM
LOCATION: Loeb Building

The ensemble focuses on multi genre ensemble playing within the jazz idiom including and not limited to Trad jazz, Be-Bop, Hard Bop, Big Band and Modern Jazz. The ensemble engages with the stylistic challenges faced with each genre by working on articulation, phrasing and groove. The ensemble divides its time between learning jazz standards from the American song book along with learning material from some of the great composers of large ensemble including Ellington, Mingus, Kenny Wheeler and Maria Schneider. The ensemble also works on repertoire from the modern heavyweights including Snarky Puppy, Vulfpeck, Ghostnote and Galaktic. Students are encouraged to perform and workshop their own compositions with the ensemble.

NOTES: Audition required – Auditions will take place on January 9 2024 in Loeb A900 at 6pm.
