Biography

Tristan completed his Bachelor of Arts Honours in Philosophy with a Minor in English at the University of Regina. Before moving on to philosophy, he finished a Bachelor of Applied Sciences in Industrial Engineering at the same institution. He is mainly interested in the intersections of literature and philosophy. In his research, he aims to critique ‘liberal’ modes of reading and develop ‘relational’ ones that can equip readers with the sensibilities and responsibilities to engage care-fully with marginalized, oppressed communities. Central to his project is the hope that, in and through a care-ful, relational reading of certain novels (in particular Indigenous lit., diasporic fictions, African-American lit., etc.), one becomes more attentive and responsive to the ambiguous relationships that exists between reader and author, between the self and its social world.
