Senior Program Officer, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)

MA in Political Science, 2021

After moving from Nova Scotia to Ottawa to attend Carleton, I obtained an eight month position at IRCC through Carleton’s co-op program. This led to an indeterminate position as a Junior Policy Analyst before the completion of my degree. My current work as a Senior Program Officer is fast-paced, engaging, and allows me to critically examine one of our programs with an intersectional lens to improve accessibility. My goal is to eventually obtain work on refugee policy. As a supporter of reducing stigma on mental health and mental illness, I was pleased to take on an opportunity within my workplace mental health committee to promote open discussion. I am looking forward to future opportunities for career growth and skill building as a federal public servant.

Working full-time while completing my degree was a challenge, but the Carleton administration and faculty were understanding and flexible, which permitted me to balance my career and school. Carleton’s co-op program provides amazing opportunities for any student who wants to gain meaningful experience and build career connections.
