The Institute of Political Economy is pleased to congratulate Director Cristina Rojas, who has been recognized by the Canadian Association for Latin and Caribbean Studies (CALACS) for her deep commitment and outstanding contributions to the Association. Cristina has been selected as the recipient of the Association’s 2019 Distinguished Fellow Award. CALACS confers this distinction to individual members who have made an outstanding contribution to the Association and whose actions have contributed to furthering its vision and mission. Cristina has shown a deep commitment to the Association, its progress and wellbeing, by co-chairing the CALACS Conference Organizing Committee in 2013 and serving as President of the Association at various critical periods. In addition to her professional contributions, Cristina’s has personally helped to welcome students from all origins and disciplines to CALACS, supporting an interdisciplinary, international community of academics, researchers, young scholars, NGO’s, Latin American and Caribbean communities and policy makers in Canada and beyond.
The Distinguished Fellow Award will be conferred to Cristina Rojas in a special ceremony at the CALACS 50th anniversary congress in Toronto, May 10-12, 2019. The conference will feature a special panel in Cristina’s honour.
