To All Members of the Carleton Community,

Carleton’s new Learning Management System (LMS), Brightspace by D2L, launches today. Moving forward, all academic courses will be hosted in Brightspace.

We would like to take this opportunity to recognize the tremendous work that has been undertaken to implement the new LMS since Brightspace was selected last July. Thank you to our many colleagues from a variety of departments and teams across campus, particularly Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) and Information Technology Services, as well as the LMS migration, procurement, security, privacy and legal teams, for collaborating throughout this process. Thank you to the instructors and students who participated in the pilot project in the winter term. Everyone’s hard work, dedication and perseverance has been integral to the success of this project. You have our most sincere thanks and gratitude.

As we move forward with Brightspace, remember that there are a variety of supports available.

  1. Instructors and staff: Access the training sessions and one-on-one consultations hosted by TLS. Visit the Brightspace Instructor Support website to explore resources or the TLS Brightspace Instructor channel on MediaSpace for a video tour, recorded workshops and more.
  2. Teaching assistants: Visit the Brightspace TA Support website to access a variety of resources. Teaching assistants can also access training sessions and enrol in the TA Central Hub on the TA Support site.
  3. Students: Student resources are available on the Brightspace Student Support site. Students can also visit the TLS Brightspace Student channelto watch short videos of common Brightspace activities or join the Online Learning Orientation to explore the new system and review strategies to succeed in online courses.
  4. 24/7/365 support: All Brightspace users, including students, have continuous access to on-demand support from D2L via email, chat and phone.

We look forward to this new chapter with Brightspace and to starting the summer term with a faster, more reliable system for students, instructors and the Carleton community.

Sincerely,

Jerry Tomberlin
