Registration Begins for University Wide Inclusion Week

Carleton University’s fourth annual Inclusion Week is coming up the week of October 17.

Join the Department of Equity and Inclusive Communities (EIC) as they host a variety of sessions in collaboration with departments across campus pertaining to this year’s theme of Disrupting Cultures of Inequity: Engaging in Brave Actions and Making Meaningful Change.

The goal of Inclusion Week is to raise visibility and awareness of the value of human rights work and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), explore practical ways to integrate its principles into our organizational structures and culture and strengthen the potential for prosperity in the community.

The Department of Equity and Inclusive Communities fosters the development of an inclusive and transformational university culture where individual distinctiveness and a sense of belonging for every member drive excellence in research, teaching, learning and working at Carleton. Through the EDI Action Plan, such a culture facilitates cross-cultural and interdisciplinary collaboration, local and global engagement, as well as an environment of innovative intellectual inquiry where all can fulfil their potential.

All members of the Carleton community are invited to join. Events will be held in a variety of formats (in-person, hybrid and online). Please visit the EIC website for additional event details and to register for the events listed below.

Alternative Grading as an Anticolonial and Anti-Racist Praxis

After last year’s roundtable about how to de-westernize curricula, panelists agreed that we must also come to terms with how standard methods of evaluation often reproduce colonial and white supremacist logics. This year, the Racialized and Indigenous Faculty Alliance (RIFA) roundtable will focus on alternative approaches to grading and methods of assessment grounded in anticolonial and anti-racist approaches to pedagogy.
