Carleton Community Shines a Light on Woman Abuse
Nov. 25, 2013 – For immediate release
From Nov. 25 to Dec. 6, Carleton University supports the Shine the Light on Violence Against Women Campaign. The campaign, which takes place during Women Abuse Prevention month and extends into the 16 days of activism against gender violence, aims to increase community awareness of violence against women and girls by turning the city purple – a symbol of courage, survival and honour.
Shine the Light is about engaging people in breaking the silence about violence against women. It encourages community members to build their awareness and speak out against violence against women.
The Ottawa Coalition to End Violence Against Women (OCTEVAW) has designated Dec. 2, 2013 as the day to wear purple in support of the campaign.
The campaign includes these significant dates:
Nov. 25: Campaign Launch
Dec. 2: Wear Purple Day
Dec. 5: Closing Event
Dec. 6: Vigil
