Mock Bomb Disposal Demonstration on March 21

Monday, March 18, 2013 – For Immediate Release

The Campus Safety Services would like to advise the Carleton community that on Thursday, March 21, there will be a mock bomb disposal demonstration taking place in the Mackenzie Building quad as part of an Infrastructure Protection and International Security class. The demonstration is taking place between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

The Ottawa Police Service bomb disposal unit will be overseeing the demonstration. The police will use pressurized water delivered via a remote-controlled robot and firing device to “blow up” a package. The sound created when the package is blown up will be similar to that of a shotgun discharge. There is no danger to the public.

Campus Safety officers will be on site, as well as Ottawa Police. Access to the Mackenzie Building quad will be restricted during the demonstration.
