Bike Thefts on the Rise
Campus Safety Services has seen an increase in bicycle thefts on campus this September. Thieves are targeting bikes that are secured with cable locks or left in unsecured areas, taking only seconds to cut through inadequate locks.
Join Campus Safety Services, Sustainability Carleton, 529 Garage, Sprott Social Impact Club, and RRRA to our Cycling Safety Awareness Event. The event is designed to promote safer cycling, theft prevention, and resources available to cyclists to connect to transit and multi-modal options.
Date: Tuesday September 29th
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Location: Nicol Atrium
Protect your ride by following these simple steps:
- Use a quality U-lock to secure the bike frame and rear wheel to a solid, secure bike rack. Never lock only the wheel.
- Register your bike or e-bike with 529 Garage to improve the chances of recovery if it is stolen.
- Store your bike in one of Carleton’s secure Bicycle Compounds, which provide controlled card access and CCTV monitoring for enhanced security.

Don’t make your bike an easy target. A few extra moments to lock it properly can save you the cost and frustration of replacing it.
