Assistance Phones

Carleton University’s Assistance Phones provide a direct connection to the Campus Safety Services Communications Centre, allowing students, staff, faculty, and visitors to quickly request assistance 24 hours a day. Located throughout campus in strategic indoor and outdoor locations, these phones enhance campus safety by providing immediate access to emergency support.

Types of Assistance Phones

Yellow Phones: Freestanding callboxes located outdoors, in tunnels, and parking areas that connect directly to the Campus Safety Services Communications Centre when activated. These phones are equipped with blue lights and cameras.

Red Phones: Wall-mounted phones without a keypad that automatically connect to the Campus Safety Services Communications Centre when the handset is lifted.

Black Phones: Wall-mounted phones with a keypad that automatically connect to the Campus Safety Services Communications Centre when the handset is lifted and are the standard replacement for red phones.

How the Call Boxes Work

  1. Press the large red button to place a call.
  2. The red light will illuminate, indicating that your call has been initiated.
  3. When you are connected to a Campus Safety Services Communications Centre Operator, the green light will illuminate to confirm the connection.

If an assistance phone is activated and the operator does not hear the caller, a Special Constable will respond to the location of the phone activation.
