Emergency Notification System (ENS)
The Emergency Notification System (ENS) allows the university to contact a mass number of people in the event of a campus-wide emergency that requires action by members of the Carleton community. It uses three forms of communication to deliver instructional messages should an emergency occur:
- a computer screen notification
- emails sent to Carleton addresses (e.g. @cmail.carleton.ca, @cunet.carleton.ca, @carleton.ca) and;
- push notification via Carleton Mobile (Coming Soon!)
Please note: ENS alerts are automatically sent to Carleton emails and Carleton desktop/laptop computers.
For more information, go to the ENS website. If you have questions about Carleton University’s Emergency Notification System, please contact emco@carleton.ca.
Protect Your Property
Bicycle Registration Program
The Bicycle Registration System is a free service to all of the campus community. When you register, you’re asked to give your bike’s serial number and a detailed description. This data is used in the possible recovery of your bike. You can register online or in person at one of the two registration dates per year – one in the spring and another in the fall. For more information, please visit the Campus Safety Services’s bicycle registration page by clicking here.
Bicycle Compound
In addition to the bicycle identification program, Carleton University has a secure bicycle compound available to members of the Carleton community for the annual fee of $15. Users will be given an access card that grants access into the compound. The area has space to accommodate over 200 bikes and is located beneath the athletics building. For more information and to register, please visit Parking Services’ official bicycle compound site by clicking here.
Operation Identification
Carleton University is a participant in the nation-wide crime prevention program, Operation Identification. The unique number issued to you has been recorded at the Ottawa Police Service. On recovery of property, police will check their files to determine if the number is registered locally. If not registered locally, the number is traced to the issuing police agency. On campus, the Campus Safety Services will engrave free of charge computers, peripherals, lab equipment, and other valuables. During the academic year Patrol Services staff in conjunction with the Department of Housing and Food Services, encourages residence students to mark their valuables and keep an inventory of their laptops, stereo equipment, etc. Upon request, university departments can have computers, peripherals and other property engraved by calling the Community Safety Co-ordinator at 520-2600, ext. 1594.
Laptop Registration
STOP, or Security Tracking of Office Property, are security plates that integrate a highly visible ownership and warning labels with a chemically bonded tattoo stating “Stolen Property” beneath it. If a thief tries to remove the STOP label the tattoo will be clearly visible and is virtually impossible to remove. This tattoo removes any value on the resale market and creates an unavoidable obstacle to thieves. For $20, you can prevent the theft of your laptop and valuable research. For more information, see the STOP Theft Laptop Registration Program brochure (click here) or contact the Community Safety Co-ordinator at 613-520-2600 ext. 1594.
