The Student Experience Office and Campus Safety Services are hosting an art exhibit as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Week. This week long exhibit features art that was submitted by students, staff, and faculty members from the Carleton community.
Opening Night – January 22
On Monday, January 22, 2024 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm, come and join us in the Galleria on the 4th Floor of the Nideyinan building for the opening night event where we will be hosting our speaker Yamikani Msosa.
About Yamkinai Msosa
Yamikani (they/them) is an award-winning Black neurodivergent nonbinary care and cultural worker based on the ancestral lands of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation. Since Fall 2023, they serve as the Executive Director at the Ottawa Coalition To End Violence Against Women. Yami‘s recent advocacy, as the Network Engagement Manager at the Ontario Nonprofit Network, focused on decent work and racial justice, supporting Black and Indigenous grassroots groups.
Yamikani is currently an advisory board member of Black Femme Legal and Co-Chair of the B-WGGD Initiative Advisory, showcasing a dedicated commitment to advancing gender equity for Black women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals in Canada. In 2017, they founded SEEDS yoga for Survivors of sexual and gender based violence.
During this evening of expression attendees will be welcomed to create a communal art piece which will be featured in the exhibit for the entire week that it is displayed.
